Black Widow written by Paul Thain
Produced in cooperation with Samuel French Ltd.
Special thanks to the Bellingham Theatre Guild, Western Washington University and the Northwest Theatre Group for the loan of costumes and props. Thanks as always to Sandy Brewer for donating the lighting system.
Director's notes :

It was more than two years ago when I proposed Black Widow to the board of Blaine Community Theater. After the resounding success of my peculiar take on Dracula, it seems that I have become the resident expert on dark drama. Black Widow is all of that, and more.

I have always been fascinated by the dark side of human nature, the Darth Vader in all of us, if you will. I was unable to present Black Widow last year because I fell victim to an unexplained staph infection in my spine that nearly cost me my life. That experience gave me an unusual insight into how human nature responds to the desperation of life-and-death choices.

We can choose to embrace life or we can choose to embrace the darkness. I chose to embrace life, but I still wonder what would have happened if I had given in to the dark side. Would I have become immortal, as my drug-induced dreams would have me believe?

Black Widow offers us those choices. Is Cressida a murderer, or was she under the influence of a demon, in the shape of Richard? I have chosen to leave that decision up to you. That’s the magic of theatre. You are the judge and the jury.
But always remember, you have to live with the decisions you make.
All participants of the play thank Mel Finnson and the entire board of Blaine Community Theater.
